NEWS
Throughout the year the children have been exposed to some excellent dance and drama workshops related to good children's literature. This has served to inspire their own writing. They looked really splendid in their costumes associated with a favourite character in a book on World Book Day and we managed to raise £135.70 for Book Aid International. Book Fair It was a delight to talk to so many parents at our Open Evenings. All the children have been working very hard increasing knowledge and gaining many new skills. I noticed that the Book Fair was very popular and we sold books to the value of £494.85. We will get 60% of the profit in books for the school. I hope it helped to keep the children busy over the holiday period. Vouchers For School Equipment We are collecting Sainsburys vouchers which enable us to provide some very stimulating games equipment for the children. Please think of the school when you are doing your shopping and collect them. We have greatly appreciated your support in previous years. There is now an area in the library where the vouchers are collected and also, where materials for recycling, can be placed in appropriate containers. Fair Trade The children took part in a very informative interactive assembly, involving a blown up banana and a giant size tea cup. Ms Allen and Ms Mitten told the children all about fair trade produce. All classes made a fruit salad with fair trade fruit and thoroughly enjoyed eating it. We all know the symbol to look out for in the supermarket that tells us it's a FAIR TRADE product. We're going on a Bear Hunt The nursery had a wonderful experience searching for bears at Horton Kirby. They had to follow a simple map in the countryside which took them through fields where they observed cows. Next a river was spotted where a little paddle was enjoyed. Then it was on to a deep, dark forest. After negotiating many obstacles and being courageous explorers they saw a 'BEAR'. Just incredible!! Hats On For Haiti Hats of all shapes and sizes adorned the heads of the children. A vast array of berets, helmets, top hats and bonnets could be seen in all classes and £308.00 was raised for a very worthy cause. Bike Rack Our bike rack has been installed at the front of the Junior School. It is only for bikes. I am delighted that so many children are cycling and enjoying becoming proficient, in relation to this skill. Health And Safety Please be kind enough not to allow your child to cycle or scooter in the playground, before or after school, because it would be extremely distressing if there were accidents involving members of our community. School Dinner Money The cost of school dinners for the next half term will be £39.20. Please make cheques payable to the London Borough of Lewisham. Please write your child's name and class on the back of the cheque and on the envelope. The end of term Our term ends at 3 o'clock on Thursday 1st April. We re-open on Monday 19th April at 9 o'clock. I hope a little Easter egg comes your way. Best Wishes Alison McClelland To download this newsletter click here |
