Fire damage at Stillness Junior School - UPDATE

Report from Selina Sharpe, Stillness Junior School Headteacher
28th August 2010

You may have heard or seen that there has been a fire at Stillness Junior School. Unfortunately, the Annexe Building to the front left of the school has been severely damaged and cannot be used. However, at present, we are anticipating that school will start as planned on Monday, 6th September, although there will be adjustments to the classrooms.

We will update this website www.stillnessjunior.com on a regular basis once we have some more information next week.

School Summer Fair

Thank you all parents and children who came to the Tropical Disco and Summer Fair. We made a huge profit this year of £1800 - the best to date! FOSI would like to say a big thanks to the parents and children that helped.

Dinner Money

The children in Year 2 who have a credit will be refunded next week. If the credit is over £7 Mrs Tennent will contact you and the money will need to be collected from the office. Other credits will be rolled over until next term. The cost of dinners up to the next half term will be £47.60.

New Staff

In September we will be welcoming two new teachers to the Stillness School community. Mrs Justine Anthony will be teaching the Nursery class and Miss Katherine Littlehales will be teaching in Reception.

FOSI

If you would like to get more involved in FOSI than there are important positions that need to be filled for September. FOSI runs many events in the school (like the Summer Fair) which will not happen if these posts are not filled. Again contact Zara or Kate if you're interested.

Acorn Breakfast Club
This club started on 7th June. It is open from 7.30a.m. It is £15 per week / £5 per drop in session. When Angelica suggested this idea many Stillness parents were interested but she now finds few children are attending and it may have to close.

Lost Property

If your child has lost any items of clothing please could you look in the lost property box near Ms Allen's classroom, before the end of term. Anything left will be recycled.

OPENING AND CLOSING TIMES

We have decided to make some changes to the opening and closing times of the school gates. As of Monday 22nd February, the times for the gates opening will be as follows:

The gates will open at 8.45 in the morning. The school is only liable for the children 10 minutes before the start of the school day.

For Nursery the gate closest to the car park will:

- open for morning pick-up at 11.25am and close at 11.40am

- open for afternoon drop-off at 12.55pm and close at 1.10pm

In the afternoon the gates will be open at 3.15pm. For safeguarding reasons the Juniors will now close 5 minutes earlier at 3:15pm. While the infants school will close as normal at 3.20pm.

All gates will close at 3.45pm, until the late pick-up.

For After School Activities, the main gate will be manned and opened at 4.30pm. Children in the Infants can be picked up from the Infants main hall, as usual.

The chains to hold the gates open will be removed for Health and Safety reasons.

It is important that all parents/carers have vacated the school premises before the gates close, particularly in the evening when the children are involved in after school activities.
